Swim Lesson Descriptions

Pre-K Level (Ages 3-5)

The Pre-K level focuses on exploring water safety and basic water skills including supported front/back floats, introduction to strokes, and bobbing in water in a fun and comfortable environment designed to meet the needs of younger students.

Level One (Ages 5 and up)

Level one focuses on helping students feel comfortable in the water and achieve basic water skills including supported back/front floats, introduction to strokes, and bobbing underwater confidently. Students are also introduced to water safety rules for both pool and natural bodies of water. This level is for students that have little to no swim lesson instruction or cannot support themselves in the water unaided.

Level Two (Ages 5 and up)

Level two teaches fundamental water skills including formal strokes and encourages independent floating and swimming. Students continue to discuss water safety rules and learn basic water rescue skills. This level is for students that are comfortable underwater and are ready for formal stroke instruction.

Level Three (Ages 5 and up)

Level three helps students combine previously learned skills to build complete swim strokes and swim independently. Students will learn to tread water and build on swimming endurance. Water safety instruction continues with safety discussions and an introduction to rescue breathing. To enter in this level, students must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke for 5 yards without assistance and fully submerge their faces.

Level Four (Ages 5 and up)

Level four continues to help students build confidence and skills in the water. Students will further refine technique in freestyle and backstroke as well as learn breaststroke, sidestroke, and standing dives. Safety skills such as rescue breathing and CPR are further discussed. To enter in this level, students must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke for 15 yards without assistance, swim underwater and tread water for 1 minute.

Level 5 (Ages 5 and up)

Level five allows students to fine-tune previously learned strokes while introducing the butterfly stroke. Students will also learn open turns, surface dives and increase swimming distance. Rescue skills are discussed/practiced, and spinal injury management is introduced. To enter in this level, students must be able to swim freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke for one length of the pool, swim breaststroke for 15 yards without assistance, and retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool.
