East Helena Vol. Fire Department 2021 LLS Firefighter Stairclimb Fundraiser

For years Volunteer Fire Chief Troy Maness and members of the East Helena Volunteer Fire Department have participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Firefighter Stairclimb. Once again this year Chief Maness will be participating to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The Firefighter Stairclimb is the world’s largest on-air stair climb competition. Open only to career, volunteer, or retired firefighters, this event features over 2,000+ members of the fire service who must register, commit to raising a minimum of $300/person for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. On May 15, from coast to coast, will virtually ascend the tallest building in Seattle.

East Helena Volunteer Fire Chief spends countless hours training existing and new volunteer members. Additionally, the Chief gives tours of the Fire Station and teaches community members and local youth organizations about the equipment that is used to fight fires.

2021 Growth Policy Update Public Hearing – May 4, 2021

The City of East Helena City Council will hold a public hearing to receive comments on the April 2021 Draft Growth Policy at 7PM on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, in Room 108 (Gym) of City Hall, 306 E. Main Street in East Helena.

The City of East Helena Planning Board has prepared a draft update to the East Helena Growth Policy and on March 24, 2021 conducted a public hearing. The East Helena Planning Board has made a recommendation to the City Council to approve the April 2021 Draft Growth Policy.

Wylie Drive Closed To Through Traffic April 5th – 16th, 2021

Please be aware that Wylie Drive from Big Sky Loop to Cottage Road will be closed to through traffic for extensive concrete repairs on the Canal Bridge from April 5th to April 16th.

Residential access will be available but access between Highway 12 and Canyon Ferry Lane will not be available.

The bridge is next to Raghorn Drive and residents may access their properties from either Canyon Ferry or the East Helena side depending on which side of the bridge they are on.

Barricades will be up and must be obeyed. For questions, please contact the Lewis and Clark County Road and Bridge Department at 406-447-8031.

Montana Emergency Rent & Utility Assistance Program Coming Soon

The Montana Emergency Rental Assistance program is being developed following the passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, which became law on December 27, 2020. We are assessing the legislation, reviewing newly released guidance from the U.S. Treasury Department, and awaiting action required by the Montana Legislature.

Input Request for Growth Policy Update – Public Meeting 3/24/2021

The City of East Helena Planning Board has prepared a draft update to the East Helena Growth Policy and we invite you to help shape the City’s future by providing comments on the future growth and needs of the City of East Helena. Your opinions are important to this process to identify needs for the City. An electronic copy of the draft Growth Policy can be found in PDF format here and a hard copy can be viewed during business hours in the Administration Department of East Helena City Hall. The East Helena Planning Board will be holding a public hearing on March 24, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 108 (Gymnasium) at City Hall, 306 East Main Street in East Helena, to gather public input on the future needs of the City of East Helena. Seasonal Weight Limit Restrictions for Certain Roads Within Lewis & Clark County

Temporary weight restrictions have gone into effect beginning March 8, 2021 on certain County roads. As frozen ground thaws, base gravel in the roadbed becomes saturated, causing surface break up and premature failure. In these conditions, fully loaded vehicles can cause severe road damage.

The load limits for all restrictions are 7 tons for single axles, 14 tons for tandem axles, or 350 pounds per inch width of tire.

Temporary restrictions will be in place for the following roads in Lewis & Clark County:

City of East Helena:
• Valley Dr. – Lewis St. to Canyon Ferry Rd.

Greater Helena & East Helena Area:
• Birdseye Rd. – Williams St to Highway 279.
• Causeway Way (Lake Helena Dr.) – Lincoln Rd. East to end of asphalt.
• Collins Dr. South – Lincoln Rd. East to Masonic Home Rd.
• Country Club Ave. – Joslyn St. to Williams St.
• Forestvale Rd. – Green Meadow Dr. to North Montana Ave.
• Highway 284 – Jimtown Rd. to Broadwater County line.
• Masonic Home Rd. – Collins Dr. S. to Frontage Rd.
• Jim Town Rd. Asphalt – Highway 284 to end of asphalt.

Permanent restrictions remain in place and are needed on roads with sub-standard base material and double chip seal. Normal highway loading can cause severe damage to roads and lead to costly repairs. These roads are:
• Applegate Dr. South – Lincoln Rd. to Norris Rd.
• Beartooth Rd. – Frontage Rd. to end of asphalt.
• Bel Air Subdivision – Entire Subdivision
• Colorado Gulch Dr. – Highway 12 to end of asphalt.
• Crestwood Estates – Entire Subdivision
• Floweree Dr. – Sierra Rd. East to York Rd.
• Franklin Mine Rd. – Green Meadow Dr. to end of asphalt.
• John G. Mine Rd. East – Green Meadow Dr. to North Montana Ave.
• Lake Helena Dr. South – York Rd. to Canyon Ferry Rd.
• Middlemas Rd. – Montana Ave. to end of road.
• Motsiff Rd. – McHugh Ln. to North Montana Ave.

COVID-19 Vaccination Registration

To register online, visit Lewis & Clark County Public Health’s COVID-19 HUB.
Rocky Mountain Development Council Area IV Agency on Aging has volunteered to provide assistance with online registration for older persons who do not have internet access. PLEASE DO NOT CALL if you or someone you know is able to register online. The call center will operate beginning Friday, January 22nd from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The number to call is (406) 447-1680.

Wind Storm Debris Collection

City of East Helena Public Works will be assisting in the pickup of wind storm debris. Branches that are 4ft in length or less and smaller than 4 inches in diameter can be piled in the location that your trash is normally picked-up. Larger branches or trees that have fallen on private property will need to be deposed of by the homeowner and taken to Tri-County Landfill across from Kleffner Ranch on Route 518. A GIS map with Tri-County Disposal’s location is available here. The form is available at City Hall to complete and submit, any questions regarding the form can be directed to the Administration Department at 227-5321.

EH Public Works Christmas Tree Pickup or Support Scouts with their Recycle Program

The City of East Helena Public Works will be picking up residents’ Christmas trees on Tuesdays during the month of January. Please leave your tree(s) safely near your garbage container pickup area. Trees should be free of decorations and ornaments. If you have any questions or if you are leaving your Christmas tree(s) in another area for pick-up please call Public Works Director Kevin Ore at (406) 459-3769.

Alternatively, residents can signup to have your tree picked-up and recycled to support the Scouts. Troop 214 are picking up trees to raise money to help pay for summer camps, equipment, and other activities.
